Frequently Asked Questions
What is it like to start counseling?
If it’s your first time starting counseling, it can feel strange or even scary to begin, particularly if you’ve been trying to cope with your concerns on your own for a while. We recognize that it takes a significant amount of courage–and trust–to start the process, and we strive to be worthy of that trust. We don’t believe in rushing you, or pressuring you to share more than you’re willing or able to at first, and that’s okay–we’re here to walk this journey with you. We work to create a safe, confidential space for you to engage in personal exploration at your own pace, build helpful coping skills, and work towards your goals.
How do I know this will actually work?
Of course, there are no guarantees. However, all of our counselors used evidence-based counseling techniques that have shown to be successful. Most mental issues are treatable. At the very least, you could learn some skills to help you manage your symptoms.
How do I know if I even need counseling?
This is something that we could help you to understand during your free consultation. A lot of the time, people just need to come in for a few sessions. There is no way to say for sure over the phone, but chances are you just need some help managing your symptoms.
What happens when I am ready to stop counseling?
A lot of people get nervous about termination. That is perfectly understandable. This will be a conversation that takes place between you and your counselor. Even after you stop weekly sessions, you are still able to contact your therapist as needed and come in for a maintenance session as needed.
If we know each other personally, will you see me as a client?
Mental health therapists cannot see anyone they personally know in treatment because our personal relationship will cause us to have bias in the therapeutic relationship. We also cannot engage in a dual relationship in which we have more than one type of relationship with you and can compromise the therapeutic relationship. However, if you contact us, we can offer referrals to trusted colleagues who can support you through your life journey.
How do I cancel or reschedule an appointment?
Please call to cancel or reschedule an appointment. You have 24/7 access to your online portal where you can cancel and reschedule an appointment. Please provide 24 hours notice for all cancellations and rescheduling. Cancellations made before this window are rescheduled the same week, pending availability, free of charge.
If you cancel or reschedule an appointment with less than 24 hours notice, or fail to show, you will be charged the late cancel/ no show fee of your scheduled session.
Do you prescribe medication?
Mental health therapists do not prescribe medication. Referrals to a psychiatrist can be provided should you be interested.
How long does it take?
Each of our sessions is 50 minutes. As far as the number of sessions, that is between you and your therapist.
